One year later- I am still on the path! Things are really cooking in my playing. Every day I am even more convinced that practicing every single day pays off with even greater dividends than practice schedules with days off. This year has been full of challenges- many of which I had experienced in previous years- but for some reason I have now made the choice (and I continue to make the choice every single day) to not let those challenges throw my focus off of the goal and get in the way of my progress.
Our semester is starting and I have taken advantage of a last-minute opening in the calendar to schedule a faculty recital. A few weeks after that there is an audition for a regional orchestra. I will continue to have specific events that require preparation, but more importantly I have found 4 specific units of practice to be extremely important in my current development (stability, visualizer work, glisses, and intervals). Therefore I will complete those 4 units before any repertoire on a daily basis. My goal is to get 3 to 4 units a day of repertoire as needed, which gives me a new ‘zero’ of 7-8 units a day. It sounds like a lot but really I think it is what I should be doing. I am excited to see what the next year brings!
